Building SPEED materials are disseminated through Teacher Academies, which are hosted by a college or university and held near race tracks. Up to 40 math, physics and/or physical science teachers will be selected to attend each academy through a formal application and selection process. Preference will be given to schools that send a team consisting of one math and one science teacher and that exhibit a strong committment to using the materials in the classroom during the upcoming year. Academy formats vary according to local need, but are generally one to one-and-a-half days.
Teachers can be self-nominated or nominated by their school districts. Applicants will be selected according to criteria that emphasize reaching a diverse group of students, committment to implementing the materials and assisting in the evaluation and dissemination, and the potential impact on the students, the teachers and the school. Each workshop has its own application instructions, which may be found on the individual workshop site.
