Energy Density: What Makes a Fuel "Good"?

Evaluating fuels that aren't petroleum based raises a lot of new questions. The best parameter for comparing fuels is the energy density -- the amount of energy the fuel has per gallon or per kilogram, for example.

This module looks at the energy contained in ethanol and ethanol blend fuels, which are increasingly being used and proposed as successors to gasoline.
